Data is obtained from the Kansas Department of Education and new data will be added as it is released. All data is provided on an average per-pupil basis unless otherwise noted. Each section contains information on individual districts and group totals and/or averages for all districts in Kansas as well as the 63 current district members of Schools For Fair Funding (SFFF), which are using taxpayer funds to sue the state and demanding that funding be increased by several hundred million dollars. (There are 65 districts included in the SFFF grouping because USD 113 was formed July 1, 2010 from the combination of USD 441 and USD 488; those two closed districts' revenue, spending and carryover history is included for comparative purposes.)
Revenue Per-Pupil shows the amount each district received from taxpayers at the state, federal and local levels for school years 2005 through 2011 and the estimated revenues for 2012.
Spending Per-Pupil provides a breakdown of total spending into as many as 13 cost centers for the school years 2005 through 2011. Some school districts may actually spend more than listed. In accordance with state accounting procedures, capital projects that are paid from bond proceeds are not reported as capital outlay as the money is spent but as bond payments over the life of the bonds, which can be as long as twenty years.
Carryover Cash Balance lists each district's unencumbered ending cash balance by fund (in total dollars, not per-pupil) for the school years 2005 through 2011.
District Comparison Tool allows you to compare one district's revenue or spending to another district, the overall state average or to the SFFF district average.
Student Achievement has Reading and Math achievement levels on State and National assessment tests.
Payroll Listings shows total pay by employee for a sampling of districts beginning with the 2008 school year. The initial group of districts was chosen to provide geographic and enrollment size diversity.
Employment Totals shows the number of full time equivalent (FTE) employees by district, broken out by teachers, all other employees and total employees. Each employment category is compared to FTE enrollment to calculate employment ratios such as students-per-teacher.
Contracts allows you to read or download current superintendent employment agreements and union agreements for the districts included in Payroll Listing.
Checkbooks lists every check written by the districts included in Payroll Listing beginning with the 2008 school year.
School District Dashboards 1 page summary of your local school district, containing Spending and Revenue per-pupil, Reading Achievement, Carryover Cash, Employment and Enrollment data.
